Ephesus: Just Like New York 2,000 Years Ago

This place was like New York City 2,000 years ago, They had plumbing and everything.

A lot of the houses and stores weren't is such great shape, but the marble city was magnificent

This is one of the biggest coliseums in the ancient world. The acosutics are still great!

All the roads were paved with marble. This was a wealthy and opulent city!

This nice lady was minding her sheep just accross from the entrance to the city. Baa!

The sky was wild all day the day we visited Ephesus. Very dramatic, huh?

During the day, the sun came out and it was gorgeous.

The sunset over the Agean Sea was special. too.

“Avatar” the Movie Was Great in 3-D at the Lowe’s Theater on 34th Street!

I saw Avatar in 3-D but here are some still photos that I took. Yes, it’s me, Carnegie. and I don’t write reviews, but … The movie, Avatar, is like the futuristic pay-it-forward of colonialism. This great movie in 3-D will revive movie theaters, which maybe should consider expanding concessions to include actual food. My vote? This is the best movie of the year (so far), and I am not a science friction fan.

: I saw Avatar at Lowe’s Theater on 34th St. It has an old Hollywood feel complete with fake palm trees.

: The Lowe’s is a bit scary because there’s a very big King Kong on the wall.

: The rug is very nice. When the movie got a little too intense for me, I went out and stared at the rug.

: This is one of the Lowe’s light fixtures. I like them even more than the rug and I like the rug a lot.

: Avatar takes place on the planet “Pandora” at some time far in the future, like 2054.

: To get to Pandora, the humans go into suspended animation so that they don’t look old in the movie.

: Of course the movie is science fiction, but here is the hero of the movie’s brain just floating around.

: Some of the creatures on Pandora look like seriously upset and confused blue cows.

: The people are blue too, but they are long and thin and beautiful, like West Village models.

: Everyone on Pandora must have Facebook, because all the people there are well connected.

: Pandora is a very peaceful and beautiful planet (until the evil humans get there).

: Greedy Earthlings invade Pandora bringing way bad karma.

: The poor Pandorans have to get all painted up to go to war with the Earthlings.

: Unlike Earth, there is no sexism on Pandora. Females and males are equal.

: Avatar is a love story. Personally, I think that it’s a lot like Casablanca with Bogie and Ingrid Bergman.

: For this movie, get a really big thingy of popcorn and some Twizzlers, because the movie is 3 hours long.

American Composer Aaron Jay Kernis’ 50th Birthday Celebration at Poisson Rouge in Soho New York

Pulitzer Prize winning Aaron Jay Kernis is an American Composer of great renown. He had his 50th birthday celebration at Poisson Rouge and it was a wonderful musical event. I was just glad to be there.

The party was at Poisson Rouge, but the fish were actually big "gold fish."

This is the birthday boy himself. I think he really enjoyed his party.

The music was terrific because it was Aaron's music that they played.

As usual, I earned my keep by helping out with the sound.

Nicole Renaud Performs at “La Lunchonette” on Sunday Evenings

Sunday night we — Me, Mom, Ann, Dora, and Alex- had dinner at La Lunchonette. The food was yummy, and so was Nicole Renaud! Nicole has the voice of an angel, and she plays the accordion really really well too. I guess her French accent is impeccable because she actually is from Paris France.

La Lunchonette is on 10th Ave. at 18th St. in New York. The food is great, and they do serve dinner, too.

It is very near the IAC Building, you know, the one that's supposed to look like a sailing ship with sails.

Nicole has really fun and funky lighting for her instrument.

Sometimes she sits on the bar to sing. It is very informal, like a real French bistro ... I think.

Sometimes I sit on the bar, too ... but alas, I can't sing.

Here are my friends, Ann, Dora, Nicole, and Alex. We had fun! BTW, Dora and Alex are film makers.

Dinner at Joël Robuchon at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York

Mom and I had dinner with our friends from Montreal, Joan and Luc, at the Four Seasons. I was happy because it was fun! No cat food here! There was foam in the fois gras (whatever that is), and the profiterole was yummy. The wait staff was really sweet; I wanted to eat them up.

This is me in Joël Robuchon's restaurant; it is very fancy.

The Four Seasons Hotel is way cool because much of it looks sort of like an art gallery.

This is Luc. He is smiling, because today is Joan and Luc's 27th wedding anniversary.

I made some nice new friends in the hotel lobby.

When all is said and done, the Four Seasons Hotel is truly a place that a cat can get a head.

NY Philharmonic “Concert to End Polio” with violinist Itzhak Perlman

The New York Philharmonic performance at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center had a performance tonight to help stamp out polio worldwide. Polio, the A.I.D.S. of the Baby Boomer generation, still occurs in a few countries, and the Rotary and other sponsors are trying to end this disease for all time. The concert was played without intermission, but Mr. Perlman was especially exquisite during the Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor Adagio … I cried. Otherwise, the concert was a non-stop potpourri, and I must say Avery Fisher’s Hall is not nearly as attractive as mine.

I got trapped in this sculpture and almost didn't make it to the concert.

The thingys above the stage must have a purpose, but I have no idea what.

This is Itzhak Perlman. He is one of the world's great violinists, and he once had polio himself.

Thanksgiving at the South Carolina Beach (November 26, 2009)

Early Thanksgiving morning, I flew from New York to Greensboro North Carolina, then we drove to the South Carolina Beach. Our family rented a house for the holiday weekend. After shopping and cooking all day, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. (Click on pictures to enlarge them.)

Tim Burton Show Opening at MoMA in New York

The Tim Burton Show Opening at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York was on November 18, 2009. The show opens to the public Sunday November 22, 2009. The event was packed like sardines. Looks like people really love scary childrens’ monsters and art that’s related to popular movies. There’s lots of stuff from Mars Attacks, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Ed Wood, The Nightmare before Christmas, etc.

Dare the Movie (2009) – Directed by Adam Salky

Carnegie’s comments: Dare is a terrific new movie that is directed by Adam Salky that explores the intricate and intimate relationships between three high school seniors. This is Adam’s first feature; and although the movie is rated R, there is no explicit sex. It is the interaction between the three stars that is five-star mature, interesting, and edgy.

Well-deserved bows they took

The Flux Theater Ensemble’s cooperative production of The Lesser Seductions of History is a well-written, well-acted, bittersweet romp through the 1960s. The play skillfully interweaves universal relationship and individuation issues in fresh and unpredictable ways. The dialog and most of the soliloquies are brilliant. This is really good theater (thru Nov. 29). Nice going guys!
